Training the Next Generation

Pathways to Impact - Collaboration

Training the Next Generation

A government priority is to ensure that there is a skilled workforce to support the new proton centres and that these centres do not “drain” skilled resource from radiotherapy departments and other activities across the UK. A key impact of this Network+ is the training of the next generation of researchers through travel grants, pathfinder projects and discipline hops, nationally and internationally.

We also have an opportunity to work with NHS England and Health Education England to develop a strategy that brings the training provided by RCUK and that provided by Health Education England together. This will enable equivalencies of training to be established and allow a fast track for early career EPS researchers who wish to work in NHS. Likewise, it will provide a route so that NHS research can be translated into the academic environment and so add to the career development opportunities for NHS scientists.

The Network+ will also work with EPSRC’s Vacation Bursaries scheme to encourage undergraduates to consider undertaking research in this field.
